lilyroseallenWe could have guessed this wouldn’t end well. Poor Lily Allen tried to take a stand against music piracy and illegal downloading, file sharing and shit via a blog she called “It’s Not Alright,” but was hosted at the honest and humble idontwanttochangetheworld. blogspot.com. But she kinda ripped off some text from another site. And people don’t like being told what to do in the first place. UK lad and singer Dan Bull posted a bitchy song on YouTube with some crap production set to her song “22″ about how she’s a hypocrite. Now, according to a Tweet this morning, she is retreating from technology, calling herself a “neo-luddite.”

Even the undead were buzzing about Bon Iver’s omg set at the Hollywood Forever cemetery on Sunday morning. But thankfully it was just the dawn of another day, and not the dead, as the singer/songwriter lulled the audience awake. One particular DJ/producer/Angeleno happened to record a few tunes on his iPhone, then he mixed and mastered them, then put them online. You can download them here, if you missed the morning magic on account of, like, sleeping or being lame or something.

Winter GlovesThis is like a match made in Canadian heaven. Thunderheist, the Toronto “ghettotech” duo and Winter Gloves, the  Montreal retrolectro quartet are hitting some North American clubs late this fall. The Gloves will be promoting their LP, about a girl, which drops next month at a “special  low price” on iTunes. The album features “Invisible” and “Party People.” You can download a remix of “Invisible” here.  Thunderheist, meanwhile, will be enjoying their first headlining tour after opening for the likes of Kid Cudi and Crookers. The Gloves will split off for a few dates on their own, but if you can make it, this is a double bill worth putting on your cals. Oh, and you should check the Gloves’ “Party People” video on the left.

Tick tock, the countdown to earth’s end is ON, yo. Simon LeBon of Duran Duran and Yannick Noah join France’s elite, like Marion Cottillard and Guillaume Canet to make some 5 second videos where they say “tick tock” (seriously), to remind us that we’re running out of time. It’s also counting down til the climate change talks in Copenhagen set for December. Between now and then, we get a new star every day saying “the time has come.” Obviously, it’s an important cause, and strung together, the videos wouldn’t look so weird. But for 5 seconds alone, it’s a little bizarre.

Dead Man's BonesHere’s the pitch: “Are you a Sword Swallower? Tap Dancer? Magician? Impersonator? Holder of unique trick or talent?” Maybe Dead Man’s Bones member Ryan Gosling shared an episode of Letterman with Stupid Human Tricks? Or maybe one gimmick deserves another? Anyway if you have talents and want to share them on stage as an opening act, get in touch with the band. They’re looking for 5-8 acts per date, and “due to the extravagant nature” of these shows, you won’t be able to sound check, even if you’re a singing juggler, or what have you. Audition tapes are being accepted via email and at their label office here in Hollywood. DVDs or VHS (what’s VHS?) tapes can be sent to: Dead Man’s Bones Talent Show, ANTI, 2798 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90026 or via email to: deadmansbones@anti.com.

Maybe it’s just because people in Milan and Barcelona are kinda automatically cool, but these fans plucked from crowds at Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet tour are having a much better time than the dancers in the official video for “Celebration.”  This MySpace Music exclusive shows us that sometimes fans get really into their concert costumes, they can make a better Material Girl than Madonna herself these days and they’re always having a shitload of fun. Most bizzare: the guy with the single boxing glove at 1:10. The hottest: group of stripping fans. The nottest: Paul f-ing Oakenfold. Oakey aside, we actually want to do as Madge says and “come join the party.”

Kid Sister headlining tour finally here like what!

September 22, 2009

We’ve been waiting for the debut album and it’s just around the corner. Now, we’ll also be treated to a headlining tour where Kid Sister will be spitting tunes from that album.  Joined on most dates by her brother’s DJ team Flosstradamus, Kid Sis is hitting a handful of clubs in October and November, including [...]

Dark Captain Light Captain present unexpected remixes of their seemingly unremixable work

September 21, 2009

The acoustic guitar and soft harmonizing tenors on Dark Captain Light Captain’s 2008 album Miracle Kicker made for a stunning album that is hard to get sick of either as background or headphone listening. Still, it’s hardly what you would call remix-ready. The group have nonetheless surprised with a 5 track ep that features re-workings of [...]
