The Bleeders
Zel McCarthy founded SoundBleed when his favorite neighborhood newsstand closed, signifying the end of the magazine era. As he was once a musician, he has a mostly un-utilised knowledge of music theory that he hopes to someday work into an interview. He has contributed to a variety of other publications including Big Shot magazine, where he was an editor for three years. If there were a list of things that he loves, Kylie would be at the top, followed by compact discs, Canada, and soy milk. You can reach him at ‘zel at soundbleed.com.’
David Bell lives in Victoria, BC where he studies writing at the University of Victoria. He has an intimate relationship with the late 80s alternative scene, a love for all things 90s (including but not limited to Canadian rapper Snow), and these days has been involved with anything inventive and interesting. If we’re pegging favourite bands, David loves Radiohead, Built to Spill, and New Pornographers. He can be reached at ‘bell at soundbleed.com.’
Native Angeleno, David Bond is an avid concert goer and culture junkie. He has interned for Big Shot magazine and is currently interning at URB. In his spare time he updates his Last.fm page and reads exciting local blogs like Ask A Chola and Alexi Wasser’s ImBoyCrazy. He would like nothing more than a personal daily phone call from Karen O – not just to chat about each other’s days but to demand they do lunch in Little Tokyo and ride bicycles with David Andrew Sitek or something. It would also be cool with him if Jenny Lewis called him on the phone. You can contact him at ‘bond at soundbleed.com.’
Caitlin Callaghan is a native San Franciscan who currently resides in New York City, where she splits her time evenly between a midtown skyscraper and Central Park. She thinks the greatest recording of all time is Vladimir Horowitz’s 1943 performance of Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1,” with Leonard Nimoy’s 1968 recording of “If I Had a Hammer” running a close second. In her spare time Caitlin likes to grow culinary herbs and pretend that she’s Andy Hampsten winning the 1988 Giro d’Italia. She reached her apex of coolness as an eighth grader in 1995, when she she surfed the moshpit of a Weezer concert at the Fillmore. Caitlin’s insights on all things bicycle – and other matters – can be found on her blog, The Freckle.
