I was wondering where he’s been! While his former Swedish House Mafia bros are on a neverending farewell tour, Eric Prydz had been missed in North America until last year when he toured briefly. No more. He throws down a residency – called Black Dice – at the Wynn properties, XS and Surrender starting February 9th. The show brings “something new” to the saturated Vegas residency scene, including “black-out lighting, fog machines and lasers, musical spontaneity beyond sure-fire club hits.” While he’s still associated with SHM (as seen here), Prydz has definitely distinguished himself in the several years since his Mafia membership expired by eschewing the big EDM rave sound. He’s experimented with less-mainstream techno and delivered a slew of tracks under his Pryda alias. “With Black Dice, we’re taking a risk,” said Prydz in his press release, promising a “new sound in Las Vegas, translating what I do at club shows in Europe to North America.” You can see him talk more about it in this clip of him strolling the strip:
While it’s hard to see how a black-out anything would be new to Sin City, based on Prydz’s history as an outside-the-box producer and often elusive DJ, this will be worth checking out.
