Weekend Anthem: Euro Girls Collabomania

by David Bond on March 6, 2010

in tune transfusion

It’s always fun to hear a familiar voice backed by unfamiliar sounds. From the surprisingly fitting like Yo Majesty and Basement Jaxx, to the plain unsettling, like Karin Dreijer Andersson and Royksopp, it’s always a treat for us music nerds. This weekend is a battle of the collaborations. First up is “Cooler Couleur,” the latest from the upcoming Crookers album, Tons of Friends, a dark, yet catchy track featuring Yelle. It’s cute, a little soft spoken, but with just the right amount of sass you would expect from Yelle. The next is “No Hassle,” a dance-hall inspired gem courtesy of Diplo and Robyn, the new self-proclaimed “dancehall queen.” This track is one of the first glimpses of her upcoming albums (yes, supposedly multiple albums), which are due throughout the course of the year. It’s the quirky Robyn we all love, complete with an infectious chorus and sugar-sweet lyrics.
