Semi Precious Weapons assault your senses but you will survive the attack

in talk of the sound

It seems like just yesterday that Semi Precious Weapons were playing an opening slot at the Viper Room and shouting the the crowd “hello all you Los Annnngeleeees cunts!” (it wasn’t an insult, don’t worry). After bemoaning “I can’t pay my rent but I’m so fucking gorgeous,” they now tour with Lady Gaga and even make cameos in her videos. Label mates and partners in unabashed grasps at fame indeed. SPW have some tour diaries that showcase the band being utterly entertaining and still very annoying (see below).

This is a band is so easy to hate but as it’s unlikely they’ll disappear soon, you might as well give in… on your own time, of course. Their tunes are catchy, and while their output is minimal (a three song EP seems paltry for a band that’s been playing in the same incarnation for three or four years), it’s clearly as well-crafted as their intentionally disheveled hair. The band is on the Monster Ball tour through Europe, Oz, and a bit of Japan. It’s not confirmed if they will be on the second leg of the North American tour, which kicks off in Montreal in late June. Unlikely though, as that would not only have them returning to markets they already hit the first time, but would keep them on the road and out of the studio until October. Their full-length debut still needs finishing.
Update March 22, 2010: It seems their debut full-length is actually already finished! SPW will stay on tour through the summer; dates below. No release date yet for that album but you can watch them listen to it (and then kick their tour van) here.
