Sisely of Shiny Toy GunsTalk about getting your mileage out of a project. Shiny Toy Guns were one of five groups showcased in a Lincoln car commercial during 2009’s Grammy awards. In the intervening year, they were chosen as the winner of the car company’s competition, and had two songs – covers of Peter Schilling’s “Major Tom” and Blue Oyster Cult’s “Burnin’ For You” – featured in tv spots. Last night, the band was featured in a live performance clip in a new promo for the luxury car. It is definitely an odd match – there aren’t too many Shiny Toy Guns fans who would ever buy an American luxury sedan, and rarely do bands go for such a long and winding relationship with a product. But so far, so good. AdTunes rated the “Major Tom” spot as the best commercial featuring a song in 2009. And damn does the band look good! This is what we call a serious budget, yo. This morning, the band’s “Major Tom” drove into iTunes Top 40. Clutch!
