These New Puritans didn’t get enough attention in the US the first time around. With inevitable comparisons to Klaxons, Art Brut, even some of the electrorock acts of 2008 (DIOYY, et al), TNPS needed some space to make a whalloping impression on the states. With their second album, Hidden, they have the chance, but by going in a whole new direction. Recorded in the UK, Hidden is produced by the band, but interestingly features mixing by Dave Cooley, known for his mixing work with Matthew Dear, Peanut Butter Wolf, and J Dilla and producing albums by Darker My Love and Silversun Pickups. Add to that, “six-foot Japanese Taiko drums, a thirteen piece brass and woodwind ensemble, sub-heavy beats, prepared piano, a children’s choir,” and something involving a melon, some crackers, and a hammer, the second TNPS album will be even more unexpected than the first. Hidden drops in Februrary on Domino Records. The tracklisting is below.
