SomedaySong: Someday
Album: Body Language (2003)

Ask any true fan about this song and they’ll probably get a little wistful, maybe a little nostalgic, and definitely protective of Kylie. “Someday” was never a single and hasn’t been performed in concert, but it’s one of the more revealing songs and musically complex. When developing the concept for Body Language, Kylie had in mind the soft, feminine sounds of 80s artists like Scritti Politti. The group’s frontman, Green Gartside, actually makes a backing vocal appearance on this track, singing the bridge as a sort of harmonic complement or foil to Kylie’s delicate soprano. One of two songs on the album co-written by Icelandic singer/songwriter Emiliana Torrini (the other being “Slow”), “Someday” has an ethereal and exotic sensibility, while still sonically connected to the album through its bass and very electro production. Ultimately, this song is about a break-up, we imagine the one between Min and longtime boyfriend James Gooding. The line “I want my records back / to get my heart on track” is like a private message between Kylie and her fellow heartsick audiophiles that resonates through the ages.

Pluses: the best song Scritti Politti never wrote
Fusses: we don’t think she did get those records back :(
