Song: Fever
Album: Fever (2001)
The title track of the megahit Fever starts with a simple keyboard chord progression before a thick 808 kicks in anchoring Kylie’s whispy and undeniably sexy vocals in this slightly campy and delightful fan favorite. A heartache metaphor blends with a love affair with music and a visit to a doctor leading do a chorus where a layer of Kylie voices asks “don’t you feel the fever like I do?” Oh god yes. With some cleverly simple lyrics, (“so now, shall I remove my clothes?”), “Fever” is naughty without being trashy – a feat for early 2000s pop music if ever there was one. It’s another instance where Kylie flirts with camp without becoming a joke. During the 2002 Fever tour this track was one of the few performed with relative austerity: just Kylie, a few dancers… oh, and she’s writhing on a bed.
Pluses: she is willing to remove her clothes
Fusses: we’re lovesick when she’s not around
