Robbie is backIt has been nearly seven years since Robbie Williams released an album in the US. And that release, Escapology, failed to match the stunning success he enjoys outside of the west. So it’s gotta be a big deal that Capitol/EMI would bother to schedule his newest collection, his ninth studio album, to drop in the US a day after it does in Europe. The album, Reality Killed the Video Star, comes out stateside on November 10th, and is produced by Trevor Horn. Horn, of course, used to be in The Buggles which this album title references. He’s also produced for Paul McCartney, Cher, The Pet Shop Boys, and Seal. Reality was recorded in London, as Williams has been spending more time there lately, instead of his longtime home of Los Angeles.

There’s been so much hype around this album (mostly started by the singer and his friends) that the pressure is on. At 60 years old, Horn is hardly a hot new producer that many though Williams might tap to follow-up his moderately-received previous album, Rudebox. In fact, that album is Williams’ lowest-selling to-date. There were rumors that he would reunite with Guy Chambers for his next project, but anyone who knows about their relationship knows that a break-up like that is for good.  There was also speculation that Williams would team up with Mark Ronson some more – Ronson had worked on Rudebox and Williams appeared with Ronson on stage in LA in 2007. But this didn’t come to pass.  We look forward to hearing the first single, “Bodies,” which is set for an October release.
