Ok, so maybe Shakopee, MN isn’t the first place you think of when you consider game-changing hip hop, but this will be the second year the town hosts the Soundset festival, a day of indie hip hop on May 24th. This will be the first show for Atmostphere after their When Life Gives You Ugly tour. While it naturally remains to be seen, all original Pharcyde members are slated to appear together (including Imani and FatLip). MF Doom‘s appearance will be his first in the MPLS region in five years in what is being hyped as a one-time performance.
If you want to go, it’s only about a twenty minute drive south of the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport. And, true, it’s not saying much to call this the best hip hop show in the midwest, but even compared to shows on the coast (like Rock the Bells), Soundset has a musical cohesion and the opportunity for some unique on-stage collabos like no other fest this season. Tickets are on sale now, a full lineup is below.
Confirmed artists include: Atmosphere, The Pharcyde, MF Doom, Brother Ali, Freeway & Jake One, Sage Francis with B. Dolan, Immortal Technique, P.O.S, El P with Mr. Dibbs & TMQ, Eyedea & Abilities, Abstract Rude + Aceyalone & Myka 9 = Haiku D’Etat with DJ Drez, Prince Paul, Buck 65, Blueprint with DJ Rare Groove, DJ Numark, Heiruspecs, Cunninlynguists, Blue Scholars, Sims of Doomtree, One Be Lo, I Self Devine, Awol One, Mike Mictlan & Lazerbeak = Hand Over Fist of Doomtree, Toki Wright, Grieves, Unknown Prophets, Lil Buddy Mclain, Just.Live, Kristoff Krane, El Guante, Plain Ole Bill, BK One, King Otto, and DJ Nikoless.
