“Celebrity is a kind of affliction, a malaise, in essence, a condition,” says Carlos Dengler, Interpol’s bassist (formerly known as just Carlos D) in an essay titled “The Ontology of Celebrity.” As a man who frequently declines interview requests, it’s hardly a surprise he so mercilessly chides the notions of fame and celebrity in his forthcoming short “My Friends Told Me About You.”
Premiering next month at New York’s Anonymous Gallery as an art installation, the film stars Dengler and features his own musical compositions. From viewing the trailer (which you can check out on the film’s site) it’s hard to tell if Dengler thinks he’s actually famous enough to be critical of being famous or he just thinks other people are silly for being famous. Also, why is the costuming 1920s-esque?These questions are reason enough see it.
